WHO WE ARE

The Klamath Siskiyou Herbal Alliance is a group of herbalists, medicine makers, growers, and educators committed to nurturing equitable and ethical herbalism in our bioregion. We have come together in this time of crisis and uncertainty to coordinate care and education for our community. COVID-19 shines a light on a system that doesn’t support us and demands that we come together to bridge the gaps through collective community care. This pandemic leaves us to answer the question… What could it look like to take care of each other when the systems we depend on falter?

We agree that:
  • All people should have access to food, water, shelter and health care regardless of their socio-economic status.
  • Systemic oppression such as racism, classism, colonization, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and ableism impact people’s health and their ability access to care.
  • It is part of our role as herbalists to address the root causes of what makes people sick, including but not limited to oppression, marginalization, colonization, state violence, environmental destruction and resource extraction.
  • We can push ourselves to adopt more ethical and equitable standards around the practice of herbalism that address social justice, sustainability and Indigenous rights.

We aim to support our communities by:
  •  Offering affordable, easy to understand, and widely available herbal resources, education and care to promote the health of our bioregion and all its inhabitants.
  • Uplifting local growers, medicine makers, practitioners, educators and herbal projects that align with our values.
  • Pushing back on cultural appropriation, the commercial use of sacred Indigenous plants, commercial wildcrafting by non-Indigenous parties, etc. that perpetuate racism and colonization in herbalism.
  • Collaborating with value aligned groups toward our goals of health justice and collective liberation.
